The NASCAR Cup Series is at the first true 1.5 mile track of the season this weekend and we should be in for a good high speed race at the intermediate track of Las Vegas. Vegas is one of the premier intermediate tracks on the schedule and we should see 1-2 main dominators with a mix of place differential upside drivers in your DFS lineups. Tire wear will likely play a role as well and there are generally some long green flag runs at Las Vegas.
Potential Dominators
William Byron
Kyle Larson
Tyler Reddick
Byron was one of the fastest cars in practice as he was 2nd in lap averages across the board. He also has the best average running position of any driver in the last 3 years at Las Vegas. Starting 8th he should get to the front and be a threat to lead laps and contend for the win this week. Larson is one of the best drivers at Las Vegas with a handful of wins and has been one of the fastest cars in recent races here. He had good speed in practice but felt like they could make his car a little better. I expect them to get the car where he wants it and he should be a top contender this week as well. Reddick finished right behind Larson in this race last season getting 2nd, but he was one of the fastest cars that week and he showed top 5 speed in practice again this weekend. The 23XI cars have been good on 1.5 mile tracks and he should make his way to the front to be a potential dominator for this race.
Place Differential Plays
Ross Chastain
Ryan Blaney
Bubba Wallace
Chastain was one of the best cars in practice and he could be one of the top contenders going into the race on Sunday as well. His car didn’t quite stick in qualifying so he starts back in 19th and has a good amount of place differential points to gain. Whether you use him as a place differential play or potential dominator I think Chastain is going to be a great driver for DFS this weekend. Blaney spun in practice and his team had to fix his car, so he starts in the back this week and he has a ton of place differential potential. He will be a popular play this week as he is likely to move through the field and should have top 10 potential. Wallace has had speed at Vegas in recent trips here and 1.5 mile tracks are some of his best results. He showed a lot of speed in practice but he wasn’t super happy with the handling on his car. If they can tweak his car to where he likes it, he could be a great play this weekend.
Cheap Options
Justin Haley
Carson Hocevar
Ricky Stenhouse Jr.
Riley Herbst
Haley and Hocevar start toward the back while their teammate McDowell starts on the pole. They should race a lot better as they had solid speed in practice and they should move forward making them both solid cheap options for this race. Haley has huge place differential potential starting in 33rd and Hocevar has a lot of room to move forward as well starting in 25th. They both had top 15 speeds in practice. Stenhouse had solid speed in practice and has some good runs on 1.5 mile tracks last year. He had to lift in qualifying so he starts farther back than his lap was tracking and has a lot of place differential potential to move for the race. Herbst is a solid flier play as he starts almost last and is in good equipment at a track he has had success at in his Xfinity career. I expect him to get better as the day goes on and should be a good place differential play.
