NASCAR Daytona and Milwaukee Early Week Preview

NASCAR heads to the Superspeedway in Daytona this week for some night racing for the Xfinity and Cup Series on Friday and Saturday night. While the Truck Series is at the Milwaukee mile for their race on Sunday. In Daytona, this is one of those weeks that anybody can win as the draft is the great equalizer and anyone should be able to get through the field and finish up front. With the big pack racing we will see another huge part of the race will be drivers avoiding the wrecks and staying out of trouble. Since the cars are so close together we usually see a lot of big wrecks at Superspeedways and especially at Daytona.

At the Superspeedways we have a little different strategy that we need to implement as compared to other tracks. Since the leader is going to change so much and fastest laps will be spread throughout the field, the most important factor for picking drivers this week is place differential and finishing position. You will want to zero in on drivers with the highest place differential potential and take into account how they might race and how aggressive they might be.

Cup Series

The Cup race is likely going to be one filled with a lot of cautions and a lot of drivers getting caught up in those wrecks. There are a lot of drivers that need a win and a good points day to make the playoffs so there are going to be a lot more drivers than usual taking risk and being very aggressive. Picking drivers that start towards the back and have that place differential potential is usually the right strategy in this race. We usually see some back markers or guys that ride in the back to miss wrecks end up with top 15 finishes a lot of the time here. Getting a lineup together of drivers with place differential and that you hope can miss the wrecks is what will win this week.

Xfinity Series

In the Xfinity race we see a lot of the same things that we see in the Cup race and it will be a similar strategy for the race. However, there are less top cars in the Xfinity series and more back markers so a lot of the time there seems to be a little bit of a smaller pack which can mean smaller wrecks. You are more likely to have more top drivers finish this race than the Cup race, so you have more drivers in your player pool starting higher up that you potentially will want to pick. For example, I may only have 1 driver starting in the top 15 in my Cup lineup, but for my Xfinity lineup I am more likely to have 2 or 3 depending where the top drivers start. We see drivers that ride in the back to miss the wrecks get top 10 a lot less often in the Xfinity race than the Cup race in my opinion.

Overall, you will implement the same type of strategy in both races, focused on place differential potential more than anything. But for the Xfinity Series you might have a few more higher up starters than you might want in the Cup race.

Truck Series

The Truck series is on their own this week in Milwaukee and they will race on Sunday since the other Series are on Friday and Saturday this week. Milwaukee is a unique track that is a pretty flat one mile track. It doesn't compare too much to anything else on the circuit, the closest would be Gateway but that track has a little different design and setup needed.

We should see a lot of the usual suspects be good this week at Milwaukee. Christian Eckes and Corey Heim are the top two drivers in the series and they will be top contenders again this week. They both ran top 5 here last year and both finished 1-2 at Gateway earlier this season. Another potential dominator is going to be Grant Enfinger. He has had a lot of speed lately and he dominated at Milwaukee last season. He should be a contender to lead laps and be a threat to win the race.

For a cheaper option that could be a good value play, Chase Purdy might be a good option this week. He had a 10th average running potion at this track last year and finished 6th. He also had the same stats at Gateway earlier this year finishing 6th there as well. He could have a top 10 run which would be a solid value for where his salary on DFS usually is.
