2 Units – Dustin Poirier @ +180
After BSD knocked out Matt Frevola, he called out Dustin Poirier. To the surprise of many, he got his wish and will be facing his toughest test in the former Interim Lightweight Champion.
I was shocked when I saw that DP was an underdog. In my opinion, DP is the better boxer, and is more proven than BSD. On the other hand, BSD’s toughest test was his debut against Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos which he was battered for 3 rounds in a fight that should’ve been stopped and cost a referee his job.
However, it seems that the narrative is that DP is an aging fighter, coming off a KO loss, and taking on a hungry contender which is why the odds are lined where they are.
In this matchup, BSD’s PTV is likely through his grappling. Offensively, he appears to be a better grappler than DP but the question is if he gets the fight to the ground, will he be able to land enough damage to make an impact on the judges’ scorecards? DP limited ground damage against Khabib and Michael Chandler who are much better wrestlers than BSD.
Being said, BSD isn’t the caliber wrestler than Khabib and Chandler are. Though I can see BSD getting the fight to the ground, I don’t expect him to show dominance like his last performances. Keep in mind that DP has been preparing for this fight at one of the best wrestling heavy gyms, American Top Team. Also, fights always start on the feet and we’ve seen BSD get pieced up on the feet. If BSD can’t get the fight to the ground, I expect DP to show his value and prove his doubters wrong.
