The NASCAR 2024 season comes to end this week as all 3 Series wrap up the championship at Phoenix. The Xfinity Series final 4 in the playoffs going for the championship are Cole Custer, Justin Allgaier, AJ Allmendinger, and Austin Hill. All 3 Series has a stand alone 50 minute practice session so we should have a good idea on who the best cars will be this week. Phoenix is a flat style track so drivers that run well on those type of tracks are going to be popular picks this week. We should have a intense battle for the championship as driver lay it out all on the line going for the win.
Potential Dominators
Chandler Smith
Sheldon Creed
Cole Custer
William Sawalich
We had a interesting practice session for the Xfinity cars as we saw a handful of potential contenders crash from oil on the track and had to go to backup cars this week. One driver that looked really good in practice was Chandler Smith as he was the fastest on 10, 15 and 20 lap averages in practice. He should be a top contender throughout the race and I expect him to lead a chunk of laps in this race as he is usually great on flat style tracks. Creed is another driver that is good on this track type and he had speed in practice as well. I think he will run up front and should be able to contend for the win at the end of the day. I don't think you can count out Cole Custer this week even though he didn't show much in practice. He usually has good runs at Phoenix and other flat tracks so he should be running towards the front and could contend as he will be going for the championship. Sawalich went out in qualifying and got the pole and he looked good in practice. He was right behind Smith in 10 lap averages and he has the chance to lead a lot from the start of the race. He is a great play this week as he is only priced at $7700 salary.
Place Differential Plays
Justin Allgaier
Aric Almirola
Connor Zilisch
Brandon Jones
One of those championship contenders that was in the wreck in practice was Justin Allgaier, so he will be a bit of a question mark for the race and starts in the back. They will do everything they can to get to the front and contend so he has huge place differential for the race. Almirola is in the same exact boat as he was expected to be a top play this week but he is in a backup car starting at the back since he was in the wreck in practice as well. I would expect Allgaier and Almirola to be good and move forward because you would expect their teams to have great backup cars, they just may not have the chance to be dominate like I think they could of with their original cars. Zilisch had solid speed in practice but got loose in qualifying so he doesn't start as good as he should be. He should have top 10 potential and starts back in 21st so he has good place differential potential. Jones is another one of those drivers in a backup car and basically just did a shake down in qualifying like Allgaier and Almirola so he starts way in the back. I don't have high hopes for him because they had to put his car together last night, so I don't mind fading him in this spot. But he is still driving a JR Motorsports car with huge place differential potential so he is still an option for this slate.
Cheap Options
Jeffrey Earnhardt
Brennan Poole
Josh Bilicki
Joey Gase
Earnhardt had good speed in practice as he was 4th in 10 lap averages in practice. I dont expect him to run that good in the race but he should have top 15 upside and he starts back in 18th so he has a little place differential potential and could be a solid value play. Poole has had some good runs this season and usually has top 20 potential. He finished 20th here in the Spring and did not get much practice due to a transmission issue. They should have that fixed and starting 28th he has good place differential potential to move forward. Bilicki was solid in practice for him and that team and he starts way back in 32nd so he has a lot of place differential potential. I think he can run top 25 and be a solid cheap play this week. I dont mind Joey Gase as a play this week as he is the cheapest on the slate and you will need the extra salary to fit in some of the top drivers and place differential plays. He was solid in practice for that team and could be a good flier play this week.
As we go into the offseason for NASCAR, I will be taking a bit of a break but will do some NFL post periodically, as well as our usual UFC plays/bets weekly. But I will be working on some stuff in the offseason for next season to increase my NASCAR content even more.
