The NASCAR Xfinity Series goes to Rockingham this weekend for the first time in a while as the track is making a comeback. The Cup Series is off this weekend so the Xfinity race is the last one of the weekend. The drivers had a longer practice session yesterday so we have a little bit of data to go off of for picks for the race.
Potential Dominators
Kasey Kahne
Sammy Smith
Brandon Jones
Jesse Love
Justin Allgaier
Not many drivers stood out in practice this week so there are not many obvious plays for potential dominators this week. I didn’t expect to have Kahne as a potential dominator today since he hasn’t raced in NASCAR in a while, but he was one of the fastest cars in lap averages in practice yesterday. He is one of the few in top equipment that has raced at Rockingham before and could end up being a top contender today. Sammy Smith was another that was really good in practice yesterday and was one of the few that did a 30 lap run which usually means he is happy with the car and they didn’t need to pit for a lot of changes. He starts in 13th and I think he has the potential to be a real contender today. Jones liked his car on the long run in practice and there was not anyone who stood out of drivers starting up front other than Kahne. I would not be surprised to see Jones be a contender this week for the win. Jesse Love is kind of in the same boat. He was top 5 in practice speeds but doesn't have much history of leading a lot of laps. He is more of a flier to be a dominator this week. Justin Allgaier did not show anything great in practice but just based on his ability in the series I am not going to count him out and he is still a usable option this week.
Place Differential Plays
Sheldon Creed
Carson Kvapil
Harrison Burton
Daniel Dye
Creed had the best 10 lap averages in practice and looked good in the practice session. He has had some history this season of not backing up his good practice sessions in the race so there is some concern of that. But with a track that we don’t really have any history on he is still a good option starting 17th. Kvapil starts back in 25th has has been running great as of recently. I expect him to move forward and should have a chance to run in the top 10 once he gets track position. Burton is another that has run well recently and he had solid speed in practice. Starting back in 29th he has a lot of place differential potential and should have the ability to get a top 15 in the race. Dye is a solid cheap place differential play as he has been running around the top 15 this season and starts back in 27th today.
Cheap Options
Anthony Alfredo
Kyle Sieg
Jeb Burton
Brennan Poole
Alfredo starts back in 34th so he has a ton of place differential in the race. He was solid in practice and should have top 25 potential with upside for more if he can stay out of trouble. Sieg has had some really good runs this season and it looked like he had good speed in practice yesterday. He starts in 35th so he has huge place differential potential but I would not be surprised to see him run close to the top 20. Jeb Burton starts 22nd so he doesnt have a lot of room to move forward but he is one of the better cars for cheap drivers and he is less likely to get lapped early. Poole is a solid flier play as he has had some good runs this season and starts 28th.
