The NASCAR Xfinity Series is in action on Saturday in Talladega taking on the Superspeedway. We will see a lot of comers and goers through the field as the draft gives everyone a shot at a good finish on these types of tracks. This is the second race of the round of 12 for the playoffs for the Xfinity series so there may be some strategy played by the playoff drivers depending on their point situation. As always on superspeedway tracks, place differential is the most important factor for DFS when building your lineups to give yourself the best chance to win big.
Top Place Differential Plays
Justin Allgaier
Sammy Smith
Brandon Jones
Carson Kvapil
Ryan Sieg
Jordan Anderson
Parker Retzlaff
These drivers are likely to be some of the top options for the race today as they are all in solid equipment to race at the front and have the place differential potential to be high point scorers. Allgaier starts in 14th so he doesnt have huge place differential potential but he should be racing towards the front all day and will be a top contender to win if he doesnt get caught up in a wreck. Smith, Jones, and Kvapil are three drivers in top equipment that have some of the biggest place differential potential to move forward. There are no top equipment drivers that will be scored from the rear of the field for place differential so these are some of the top options this week. Anderson and Retzlaff will also be a popular plays as they have had some good runs on superspeedways in the past.
Fades
Austin Hill
Jesse Love
AJ Allmendinger
Sheldon Creed
Chandler Smith
Parker Kligerman
Shane Van Gisbergen
Leland Honeyman
CJ McLaughlin
David Starr
With place differential being so important today, the better strategy is to limit the amount of drivers starting towards the front of the field. Especially the drivers starting at the very front as their upside is limited with very little place differential potentials, and they are not likely to get very many dominator points as those are spread throughout the field in these races. I do not like picking the top 5 starters in this race as their potential is so limited so I will be fading those drivers today. If you want to throw one of those drivers in I don't mind, but limit your lineups to only 1 driver starting up front to have the best chance of scoring big in my opinion. I also don't like SVG today as he lacks experience in this type of racing and I think he will take it easy today since he just need solid points since he is likely to get a good finish next week at the ROVAL.
For Honeyman, McLaughlin, and Starr the reason I don't love using them today is I think their main focus will not being involved in a wreck and they start in the first half of the field. They are likely to ride in the back to not be in a wreck and they start 19th, 21st, and 23rd meaning they have a lot less place differential potential than other cheap drivers. Even if there are a lot of wrecks, them finishing around 10th may not be optimal if there are other drivers that started farther back that can finish around the top 15.
Cheap Options
Jeremy Clements
Brennan Poole
Ryan Ellis
Matt Dibenedetto
Kyle Sieg
Kyle Weatherman
Dylan Lupton
Carson Ware
Caesar Bacarella
There are a lot of big place differential options among the cheap drivers and the different teams are more likely to implement different strategies rather than racing aggressively the whole race trying to get to the front. A lot of these drivers I expect to ride in the back to try to avoid the wrecks and late in the race may move forward and end up with a good finish. It is hard to predict what strategy each will employ but we have seen Poole and Ellis make it to the end of these races a lot so I would not be surprised to see them ride in the back to miss the wrecks until the end. Dibenedetto and Sieg could go either way, they are teammates and have run in the back together before, but they are also drivers that have raced in the pack throughout the race too. Weatherman is in the same boat as well. I expect if these drivers ride in the back they may do it with teammates so pairing teammates is a strategy to take as well. Lupton, Ware, and Bacarella are cars that I expect to ride in the back to miss the wrecks so if there are a lot of them they could be solid plays as well. All these drivers starting in the back are viable options for DFS.
